Mufflers and loud trucks?

WHY do people have to make their vehicles loud solely for the sake of them being loud? Ok, if you modify your vehicle and that modification actually helps substantially increase the performance of the vehicle, then fine, but who are these morons with glass packs and fart cannon mufflers going around making all kinds of crappy noises just for the sake of making noise. Congratulations, your car is loud and annoying, I'm very impressed. Now watch me absolutely smoke you in my relatively quiet car. Hey I'm not against loud V8s, but don't put crap on them just to make noise. I mean hey an good intake and cat back, that's cool and will give you some more hp and if it's loud, it's loud...but a $40 noise maker on the back of it isn't going to do crap but make noise, so why bother?

1. you know in my day, glass packs was the cool thing to do. but i lived in the country. only thing we bothered were the cows.

3. some mufflers offer better flow and more sound to increase performance. glasspacks are loud because they offer no restriction to flow. and i agree those fart can mufflers are reallt annoying
4. Yeah , i see this a lot too. My theory in blaming video games and movies might be argued here, but generally these people do it cause they think it's cool to be loud like that. No thought or planning goes into it , they just want "louder" , not realizing that all they get is the sound of a crappy pipe, they all want a quick fix. I agree with your last sentence too - There are some execptions where a small number of the smarter ones have it "Goin on" under the hood , but they keep a low profile cause they keep it quiet - these are the ones that should be feared. LOL!
