How do I track down a classic car that I once owned?

I am trying to track down a 1968 Chevy II Nova that I once owned that was sold to a guy in Stanton Island, NY. Does anyone have any ideas? I cant use the normal car vin searches since it is a pre 1981 vehicle. Any help would be appreciated!!!!

  1. I don't think there is a way, I've tried to find my old camaro and I was lucky enough to drive past a yard and found it.
  2. That is like trying to find a pin you lost 10 years ago in Central park
  3. Do you have a friend with the motor vehicle department (vehicle registration)? I know that in Texas, they can search VIN numbers to check ownership or verify if a car was stolen (even on 1981 and prior years). GM has also somehow used been able to find current owners on early 70's trucks for some safety related issues. The search would probably need to include several adjoining states. If the car was registered by the current owner or even had the title transferred within recent years, the VIN should show up in the registration database. That failing, you could publish the VIN in a collector car site or even the newspaper asking for information about it.
  4. I work for an insurance company and have access to the NY DMV i might be able to help e-mail and we will see I will just need the vin
  5. I have the Nova and I'm leaving NY. You'll never get it back NEVER!!!!!!
