Can you add bigger alloy wheels to a car?

Sorry for my ignorance. I just bought a Misubishi Lancer (I think its the 2006 model with either 1.6 or 1.8). Im not sure about this because it was given as a gift to me. Anyhow, the wheels size is 195/60 R15. And i am wondering if its possible to actually add bigger wheels to it? I want to add alloy wheels but it only looks good when the alloy wheel itself has a wider diameter. Please advise. Im new to this car modifying thing. Although this is even lower then basic hehe. Thanks! :)

  1. USE YOUR BUD................................
  2. yea you can. if you get low profile tires there will be less rubber and more metal. go to a rim/tire shop and ask them about specific sizes and what will fit, but yes, you can do it
  3. The important things that go into a wheel are A: bolt pattern. This is the arrangements of the holes that allow the wheel to bolt onto the car. If the bolt pattern isnt right, the wheel wont fit on the car. B: Rim size. Too large of rims wont fit on a car (obviously). The key here though is the rolling diameter (the rim+tire diameter). a set of 18" rims could actually be the exact same rolling diameter with some low profile tires as your 15s. You dont want to throw off the rolling diameter because it makes it harder on your brakes, your transmission, and your speedometer. C: the offset. This is how far the place the wheel bolts onto the hub is from the center of the wheel. If youre too far off of the stock offset, it can be very hard on wheel bearings. It can also lead to rubbing in extreme cases. and D: Rim width. Too wide of rims can lead to rubbing issues while turning. Easiest way to figure all of this out is like this: Go to tirerack.com, and put in your car. It will show you the list of rims they sell for your car. Check them out and such, but when looking at the tires for them, there is a nice little stat on the tires called "revolutions per mile." Make the revs per mile match (or at least very close) to your stock revs per mile (this means rolling diameter is the same).
  4. sure you can add any kind of wheel from size 18 to 20 but you have to be sure that when you add a 20" it does affect the performance handling because size 20" is a little big but go and check with any wheel and tires shop or check with Discount Tires. they can help you out on what size is better for your car. hope this help you.
