What is the Ohio documenation fee when purchasing a new car at a dealer?

I just purchased a new car and the dealer told me that the state of Ohio charges $250 for a documentation fee. They said just a month ago it was $100. Is this fee real and are dealers assessed for all of the cars they sell by Ohio?

1. %^%^%^ I think it depends on the value of the car.
2. I was told and paid the same thing. Am wondering if we got snookered???? I'm not sure it is a State of Ohio fee or just a dealer charge. I tried the BMV and no luck on an explanation and the auto dealers association which had "no comment" about the fee. Let me know if you have found anything out!
