When you buy a car at a police auction what kind of title do they give you?
Our local police will be having a seized car auction next month...I though it might be a good cheap way to pick up a car for my teen daughter...Now I've never been to a police auction before so I have to ask do they give you a salvage title or just the paperwork for a sheriff's lien and expect you to get a title on your own? if it matters these will be sized DWI, DUI and not abandoned along the roadside cars...

- The police will make a salvage tital for you if they dont have it fromt he start, well you do know that it will be legal.
- i think they make up new titles.
- A car that was seized by the police will have lein papers and it would be up to you to get a new title with these papers. Unless the car was in a crash, it would not be a salvaged title.
- For starters.....they have to have the title (clear/no lien) to sell the car to you. They will have already done the necessary paperwork to have a title on hand. Only if it was a previously salvage or municipal title will they convey the same to you. Then you take the title down to your DMV to get it properly registered in your name.
