Will a used car dealer buy a car?

I know used car dealers usually trade in different cars to have more variety but do they just buy cars too? I'm trying to sell one but I want to try to sell it to a dealer because it seems like I would get paid what it's worth.

  1. They buy cars yes! But from a auction for dirt cheap! From you it will be a trade for dirt cheap! They'll give you about 50% of what they can sell it for! .
  2. They buy cars, but they will only give you the wholesale price. If it is a late model then they may keep it on the lot, if it is older, then it will be sent to an auction. good luck.
  3. They will buy it, but, they can not give you what it worth. They sell it for what it worth. A friend of mine, his dad has a car lot. Years ago, I had a Buick Century station wagon. I had bought a new used truck and wanted to just get rid of the car without a lot of hassle. So, I ask what the man give me. He said; "I will tell you what it worth and what I can give you". That seemed fair, so, I not feel I got taken. He said the car was worth $1,800 and he could give me $400.
  4. A used car dealer is in the business to make money. Buy low sell high. They will probably offer about half of what it is worth. Your best bet is to place an ad in your local paper. Or park it in a location where a lot of people can see it, with a "for sale" sign on it. You need to find out what it is worth. Most banks will give you can get a Blue Book quote. Then you can sell it for what ever you can get out of it. Good luck!!!
  5. I am a used car dealer, and I buy cars from people all the time! I base my prices on what comparable vehicles are selling for at dealer auctions, and adjust that figure to take into account mileage and condition! A dealer will pay wholesale price for your car. It would make no sense for me to pay you more for the car than I can buy the same car for at the auction! Take your car to a dealer (or a place like Carmax) and see what they offer you, This will tell you what your car is worth today (wholesale). Then you can decide if it is worth the effort and time to sell the car yourself retail! Good Luck!
