How can i sell my car if i do not have a "clear" title?

I bought a new car last year and need to sell it now because i have to leave the country. I found someone who is willing to buy it (he will pay cash) but the title is not clear. I can't afford paying the whole balance in full to clear the title, How can I sell the car? Thank you in advance.

  1. You get a loan to cover the difference between the selling price and the amount of your car loan then pay the car off and hand the new owner a clear title. That is the only way you can do it. Then you make payments on that loan.
  2. The loan must be paid in full. If the loan is not paid, then he will not actually own the car. He will be the victim of a crime. You'll be the criminal. Did you not realize that when you borrow money, it has to be paid back? That money belongs to somebody, and they want it back.
  3. well that's just it, you can't! The bank needs the FULL payment payoff or it is not not going to release the title. good luck with that...
  4. I think you mean you are selling the car but don't have cash to pay the balance in full to clear the title for the purchaser. If you are selling it for more than you owe - I hope so - the buyer can pay you cash or check for your part and a cashiers check made payable to the lein holder. Then mail the lein holders check and the buyer will simply have to wait for the release to title it. You can also contact the lein holder and you may simply be able to wire the money to pay it off. It can be done...I have done it before. Mine was with a bank and the buyer simply wrote 2 checks and the bank released the lein.
