Should I keep my old car or sell it before it konks out?

I have a 1980 Toyota Cressida 200K miles, paid $650 3 yrs. ago, runs good, no problems, just drive it short distance to work. I can sell it for $750 now or wait till it dies which could be tomorrow, next month, next year, 2 yrs etc. What would u do?

  1. Keep it til it dies. Are you wanting a new car? Then go get one, but keep the Cressida. Always good to have a back up or let a younger member of the family use it to learn to drive. You've gotten your monies worth out of it. So keep it.
  2. If you have the money to buy a new car I would. Consider the fuel savings. But the payment could cancel out the savings. So you would have to consider it carefully.
  3. well if its running and you have no problem why get rid of it really unless you just want another car or payment
  4. If it were me I would just drive it until it dies. Unless you are planning on buying a new car, you are just as likely to have your newer used car "konk out" than your old one. You already got 3 years out of a $650 car! You have nothing to lose! Even when it dies, you will probably get a few hundred dollars for it. Of course, if you are just tired of driving a 28 year-old car, nothing but a newer car will do.
  5. Keep driving it. It runs and you don't have a car payment, the two best things to have in a car. Besides, the Cressida is a sweet ride. Get it tuned up and drive it for another 200K.
  6. Drive it until it won't go any more, then send it to a salvage yard. Prices are way up on metal.
