are FM transmitters for ipods any good?

i just bought an 05 scion tc which does not have an aux input for mp3 players. i dont want to spend money upgrading the stereo right now (i want to spend the money to do it right). anyway, i thought about getting an fm transmitter to use with my car. are they worth it? how is the sound quality compared to a direct aux input? whats the difference between the $30 unit and the $70 one?

1. No, you are better off getting the thing that directly connects either through the casset player or through, like you said, some kind of aux port. I bought the iTrip and it was crap. $25 down the drain for it.
