  1. Not at all surprised. All US car companies are in big oil's pocket. Have been for years. There will always be 'reasons' they can't. Perhaps in 10 years... they have been saying it since the 80's.
  2. Doesn't matter how we feel. The appointments and safety requirements here in America make the car unprofitable from the start. It's not as if Ford is keeping salvation from the 'Peepul'. They would if they could, and can't so they won't.
  3. Well put, Steve.
  4. The big investors in Ford Motor are the same investors of ExxonMobil, McDonnell Douglas, and Haliburton. They like the status quo. I do think Ford is making a mistake. I'd buy a diesel car for $26k-$28k. Easier than transitioning to electric short term.
  5. The article actually addresses the reasons why they 65mph version won't be sold in the US. We'll get a version with a different engine that will still have high fuel efficiency and run on E85.
  6. Believe me, Ford wants to sell this and any other vehicles that it produces in any market that will buy them. Unfortunately, they also need to make a profit when doing so - and they need to know that the vehicle will sell once introduced to the market. They have determined for what ever reasons that this vehicle would not be a profitable import for them - it could well be American's reluctance to own a diesel vehicle, or the extra cost of the fuel, emissions or safety standards in this country or some basic marketing research. American auto manufacturers are desperately looking for ways to stem their demise - they are not going to hold back vehicle models that they think will sell and produce some much needed income.
  7. It's crazy but no different from that guy back in the 50's that held the patent on tubeless car tires that was bought out and never made it to market... It's funny to me - GM is asking the fed's for a loan to "modernize and update" their plants. They've know like all the auto makers have known for decades that's what they needed to do. Rather than investing in these upgrades when times were fat, they chose to be greedy and did not invest in them selves. I say let them die. It won't be long before all the US auto makers have their greedy hands out. I am sick and tired of all these bail outs. No one's going to bail me out.
