car insurance question?
I bought my car on Aug 25 2008. But the policy period on my new policy is from Aug 2 2008 to Aug 2 2009. How can they cover me before I bought my car. Is Safety Insurance of Massachusetts always do business in this sneaky way?

- Not sure about your state but you should make them prorate it to Aug 25th and pay you back the difference. Sounds shady to me.
- This is probably just a simple mistake. You should have a receipt or a cancelled check demonstrating when you purchased the insurance. Go to your agent or broker and show them the documentation, telling them you want them to adjust the policy dates. If the agent or broker won't do it, contact the company headquarters, and if they won't do make the adjustment, contact the insurance commissioner for your state.
- Insurance companies cannot charge you for coverage before you needed it. If they say "they have to to that" it is nothing more than a bunch of B.S. I hope this is nothing more than a simple mistake. Bring it to the agency's attention, if they wont do anything, then call the corporate office, if they wont do anything, then contact your state insurance commissioner,
- Sounds like a typo. Call them and explain. Should be cleared up in five minutes.. A typist didn't put in the 5.
- sel_bos, I recommend you visit a local auto insurance agent to help. Since I live in Delaware I can't recommend anyone in Massachusetts, but here is an online resource that can help you. http://www.simpleautoquotes.com/Auto-Insurance.html Good Luck.
