where are good low cost places to have a catering trailer

is it possible to just pay ground rent at a car boot sale? any info would be great, i know i will have to register with the local council, where does that allow me to trade?

  1. Try in your local industrial estate. There are always folk who forget/can't be bothered to bring a packed lunch/dinner. The guy in the trailer near where my husband works makes a fortune - not to mention great bacon butties-as well as other more substantial stuff. As the factories work 6 days out of 7 , he makes a regular living too.
  2. When you get your licence to trade you will need to contact the organisers of the car boot sale for permission to pitch. I did ask on sunday morning at a local boot sale (a big one) how much the catering van paid in rent for his 6 hour pitch and it was £80. I think there is a limit as to how many trailers are allowed at these venues. Don't forget you will need public liability insurance in case your gas cannisters blow up or you serve a dodgy beefburger.
  3. I don't know anything about the law but we have a coffee van that regularly turns up at school events (Sports day, fete, christmas performance etc) Really appreciated by us mums and dads!!!
