Selling a car tomorrow (Holiday) when banks are closed. How to tell if cash is fake?
My Husband and I are selling a car to someone that just noticed our for sale sign today while driving. He will be coming over tomorrow and paying us in cash while we sign the title over to him. It's a very old car, so the cash is not a large amount. What should we be wary of when accepting $100's or $50's from someone? Anything else we should do to make sure the transaction is safe? Thanks.

- uhm hold it up in the light and u can see a black-line going straight down in letterings, and check for the watermark Face of the president, and also u can tell if its fake by the way it looks and feels, if it feels/looks goofy then it fake but hold it in light to check watermark
- Have them purchase a money order there is bound to be a supermarket some where, or check cashing place open.
- I'd hold up the bills to see if there's a silk strip in it. You could also buy one of these, I've seen them at Kinko's before. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counterfeit_banknote_detection_pen
- just wait till friday! And be sure to record all transactions and have everyone involved sign the reciept.
- There is more to selling a car then simply getting the cash and you signing the title over. Do you realize that if this person never makes it to the DMV, and they get tickets, you are legally still the registered owner and legally bound owner of that vehicle? Yes, you are. See what you might be able to print online from your local DMV or wait until they are open to ensure this gets done. My own cousin put this off, and the car got towed, and I did not know, and my credit has this huge black mark on it. My cousin then died and had never paid it off, it was thousands of dollars the last time I checked. Those tow truck guys are like the hounds of hell, all they know is tow it, bill it end of story. Protect yourself. Cash, if you take your fingernail and put it tight to the bill should leave a green mark on paper as you scrap it along. Look at some examples from money you have right now to see how this works. Why not ask them to purchase a bank money order or cashiers check from a well known bank so that way the bank is accepting the responsibility of checking the money. WIth all the new styles of money out. I cannot look at money and tell if it real or not
