if a cop stops me in Massachusetts, am I required to have (not show) car insurance?

  1. Isn't it the law everywhere to have at least liability?
  2. Yes, you are required to have car insurance, if you drive in Massachusetts. If you're from out of state, you must carry proof with you. If you're from in state, they can verify with a license plate check.
  3. If you are stopped anywhere, you will be asked, "license, registration and insurance, please."
  4. if they ask for it yes. unless you live in a state where insurance is not required. yes, they still exist.
  5. Well, yes. The policy number and the name of your insurance company is on your registration card. You usually pull it from your glove box, and give it to the cop along with your license. I am not sure what happens if you do not have your registration, but the cop would probably run your plate. They have access to the DMV records which also shows whether or not your insured.
