How could I sell my car to a private buyer?
I own my car, it is paid off and the car is in my name. my car isnt old (2006 mitsubishi eclipes). How would i go about to sell my car? Which website and which magazines? ALSO, How would I get the money? I heard all these stories where people get ripped off while selling their car and im kind of afraid by this.

- craigslist is free. autotrader online is better. only accept cash. no way to rip you off with good used dollars.
- I have done it easily...(I live in a large city)...by placing an ad on www.craigslist.com . I only sold in person---and cash. I, of course gave them a receipt for the purchase. You can also use www.autotrader.com
- What the above guy said, but with a car that new you probably won't be able to do cash. If there's financing involved, make sure you're present at the bank when the paperwork is written up and ask plenty of questions...mainly about your money. Be paranoid. Cashier's checks are good, too. When I buy a car I pay with a cashier's check from the bank. It will be a printed check with the bank information on it. You can take it to the source bank and have them verify it for you, or call them.
- local newspaper, autotrader, yahoo autos, ebay. When the person gets a loan from a bank, credit union, etc the will write the check over to you. I guess you could cash it first or meet at a bank when you hand over that car.
- DO NOT!, DO NOT ever take a personal check!! That's how you get ripped off. Even if it's a friend.!! And do not take SOME of the money now and the rest later! Get it ALL now. Tell them you want a Certified CHECK from the bank (a well known bank...not Joe's Good Bank or Sally's Check Cashing Depot Bank, etc.). No personal checks, NO CASH, not part of the amount, only a Certified Check. Go ask the bank if you're not sure about something....or a lawyer. Stick with your asking price, don't come down on your price . . . there's plenty of fish in the sea. . . others who will buy! Hey, it's YOUR car. Not theirs. Make sure you have your Title for the car. Don't even let them SEE it until you get the certified check. Keep organized, put everything in a folder. A good place to get more information is at www.google.com Type in your exact question like you asked us, hit enter, or click GO and you'll get all kinds of answers.....better than you get here. Have fun....Certified check!....see 'ya. `
