Overhaulin'

Any suggestions for my first new car?

I have a budget of about $19,000 (more or less, less would be nice) and I am planning on taking advantage of these 0% financing offers on the 2009 models. I just want a safe and reliable car that will get me from point A to point B without emptying my wallet. the car must be domestic, I'm from Detroit so the T-word is worse than the F-word.

  1. toyota's are reliable!! try a camry or a corolla!! definitly nice cars!!!
  2. Buy a Pontiac Vibe . It is the same car as the Corolla but different body style . Same Trans and engine so will last just as long as a Corolla . Plus it is made in California plant . Same place the Corolla is built but made by the United Auto workers . So you are helping the US auto workers but have same reliability as a Toyota . You can also buy a used Vibe and save money to because their value depreciates more than a Corolla
  3. I bet your cat's breath smells like cat food. My wife bought a Ford Focus a couple years ago, it's been fantastic; fully loaded and she got it for about $14,000 out the door. Slightly larger, the Ford Fusion is ranked high in reliability surveys, and it starts around $17,000. Alternately, you may want to buy a slightly used car (say 10,000-20,000 miles) and save a bundle. For example, I bought my SUV with a few miles on it, and that combined with the gas prices helped me pay less than 1/3 what it sold for off the lot two years before. Have fun - your $19,000 budget actually gives you a lot of options. Go Redwings!
  4. Well if I was in your situation I would buy a nice used car that is about 2-3 years old. GM has some very nice cars and good prices. With their 5yr 100,000 mile warranty it would be like buying a new car without the high price of a new one. You can buy a used car in great shape for well less than $19,000 and wont have to worry about a loan. That is if you have the $19,000 as cash. Also if you buy a new car the depreciation is terrible within the first year, with a car that is 2-3 years old the depreciation is less from year to year. A Chevy Impala is a nice car with a good used car price.
  5. Check out the new Chevy Malibu's........ Detroit huh? --- Get it rustproofed right at day one..... Those michigan winters are similar to my New York winters -- snowy, wet and they use tons of salt on the road.... See if you can budget a little more or make a bigger down payment..... http://www.chevrolet.com/2009malibu/
  6. 2009 Ford Escape XLT V6 Bottom Line Price : $18,632
