How Do I Sell My Car For Parts?

I have a 1994 Nissan Altima that I'm ready to get rid of due to an electrical problem. It's really not good as a trade-in, but I'd like to sell it for parts. I don't mean taking it to a junkyard and scrapping it. That would only get me around $500 for the whole car. I want to sell the parts (windshield, brake calipers, door frame, etc.) privately. How should I go about doing this? Should I take some interior/exterior pics and post them on Ebay or Craigslist or something like that? Thank you in advance for any helpful suggestions!

  1. That's called "parting it out". Yes, you can do that. I know you would be able to do it on Craigslist. You could probably do it on eBay too, by putting up a classified ad, but either way I don't think I would. Craigslist is local and eBay is national; eBay tends to be better for rare cars, hard-to-find parts, etc. 1994 Altimas are plentiful enough that most anybody can find parts for them locally, so I would keep it to Craigslist. I'm assuming that you won't be parting it out yourself (whoever wants the part must pull it themselves), and you'll want to mention that in the ad.
