I am 17 years old and i have enough cash to buy a car. Can i walk into a dealership and buy one?

Can you be under 18 and buy a car? I Live in Oregon and i can buy the car outright. I give money no debt for me, straight cash

  1. Call some dealers and ask them. I doubt it at 17.
  2. Do you have enough money to buy the car outright? If not then you will need a cosigner for the car. You are too young to enter into a contract to pay off a car and no right thinking dealership would do that with you. If you can buy the car outright then be sure to save money for gas, maintenance, insurance and all the gadgets you will want to accessorize the car with and don't for get to put money aside for fines. Just giving you a dose of reality. I was young once.
  3. Short answer is NO You have to be legal age to sign the paper work which depends to the state you reside.
  4. You cannot legally enter into a binding contract until you are the age of majority, 18 years of age. Any contract a dealer made with you could be undone. That is why they would vett (to appraise, verify, or check for accuracy, authenticity, validity, etc.) the deal and discover your true age. They do not want to do a deal that could return to them. How long is it until your birthday? Have someone buy it now for you to drive and buy it from them, then. Remember the costs for insurance, title changes, maintenance and consumables (fuel, oil, other fluids et cetra). The purchase of the car is a one time event, the usage expenses occur daily. By the way I'm an Oregonian also...
  5. So long as you are not entering a contract or payment plan - cash talks. A 7 year old could buy it outright - would not be allowed to drive it...but could complete the purchase.
  6. no you need to be 18. Under Oregon law, a juvenile is anyone under the age of eighteen
  7. Not happening. Get a parent to sign the papers for you.
