Overhaulin'

Can I add my husband to my car's title if he's not on the car loan?

I couldn't add my husband to the car loan because of his bad credit history but I would like to add him to the car title is this possible? We live in Kansas. Thanks.

  1. You should be able to but ask your lender because they won't release the lien when you reapply for a new title in your hubby's name.
  2. No. Not until you pay it off. The title is held by the people that gave you the loan.....they are the leinholders. If he was not on that paperwork, then the leinholders and DMV will not allow it.
  3. If you haven't already transferred the title into your name, the bank may let you. You'd have to call them and explain you would like the title to be in both your and your husband's name. Banks generally only like to have the people listed as owner who are also on the loan, so I won't guarantee anything.
