On my 2005 Chevy Malibu,a little over a month ago I took the car into the Chevy dealership because the steering column would smoke while the car was on. The department determined that it was an issue between the multi through switch and the 4 way switch, cleaned some residue off the cables and called it good. Before I even signed for the service, they had to take apart the steering column, and part of the dash again, because it was smoking. They replaced both the multi-through and the 4 way switch, because according to them they were causing feedback to each other and it would have caused a fire eventually. The process had started with the blinkers not working, then spazzing out, and then the smoke coming. Just this morning, the blinkers quit working, AND started spazzing out again. I don't see any recall information on this online, but I'm unsure how to talk to the dealership about this, or if this is a known issue at all. My wife and I spent 400 dollars on this not even 2 months ago to fix, and now it seems to be happening again, I dont want to have to spend anymore money here. Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on, and how to fix it?
