If I sell my car in CA and it is being shipped overseas, is there a sales tax?
I am selling my classic car to a German guy that intends to ship the car overseas immediately. Generally after the sale of a car, the buyer pays the sales tax when he registers the vehicle. If he isn't registering it in the US at all, what happens to the sales tax? Will the DMV come after me for it?

- The buyer pays the tax. Not the seller. No matter what you will not be responsible. When a car is bought, the car sales tax is paid in the STATE being registered. So I would think there's a loop hole (or maybe there will be a tax requirement at the time of shipment). But all this is moot. this is not your problem. Good luck...
