Overhaulin'

Is there a way that a car company can remake a older/replaced car as new?

I was wondering if it was possible that a car company can specially reproduce a car that was no longer in production. Such as the 2001 acura integra or 2006 acura rsx. I am not talking about bringing the car back in to production with new features and everything. I want the original car copied from the blueprints as a 2009 model with no changes whatsoever.

  1. My guess is no because of always changing safety and emissions requirements not to mention the changes in manufacturing processes and equipment.
  2. Some car companies sell older model dies and equipment to sister companies operating in poorer countries but the vehicle will usually have regional changes so they can't be exported to other countries because they won't meet safety and emission standards. Brazil used to have some cars that met these criteria during the early 70's.
  3. It has been done before, but not in the way you suggest. Some high-end manufacturers, like Mercedes-Benz, maintain facilities that can restore a tired vehicle to factory specification -- for a price. To celebrate the reintroduction of the Z-car, Nissan briefy offered a program to bring tired 240 Z's back to factory spec.
  4. It's a potential minefield unless the design is bought by someone. Eagle bought the E type design from Jaguar and have been rather successful. Another example is Caterham with their 'Lotus 7'. If you really like an old car track down a low mileage mint example. My Dad has just done that with the rather awful Vauxhall Omega Elite (which stopped being sold in the UK in 2003) You should be able to track down an Acura RSX if you look hard enough!
