Can I sell cars without being a car dealer?
I buy and sell the odd car and am wondering how many vehicles i can legally buy and sell in a year without being classed as a car dealer. I have heard from a couple of people that 8 vehicles is the limit without registering as a dealer but am not sure if that's correct or not. Any input would be a great help to me, Thanks you very much.

- Every state will be different. In my state, you cannot sell more than 3 passenger vehicles per year without obtaining some sort of dealer's license. Of course, if you're not advertising and making a spectacle, nobody will really notice if you're selling a couple more. But, be prepared if you're state income tax is higher than it should be.
- Depends on the state. In some states, if you sell over as little as 3 cars per year, you have to register as a dealer.
- Ive heard that If you deal in cash and you never sign the title when you buy it then just sign it over to the buyer you have no limit. dont remember what site i read this on but you can search more.
- In the U.K., buying and selling more than 6 vehicles in any 12 month period, classes you as a dealer.
