Is this worth calling in to insurance?

I hit my girlfriend's car backing out this morning. She had parked in the driveway and usually leaves before I do so I didn't really think about it when i backed up (my bad). I hit her car with the back side of mine and the front side of hers (kinda from bumper to above the front wheel). There's about 1-2 feet of scratch on my car (might wipe off haven't checked) and the paint is chipped off my back bumper. her car is scratched and there's a dent there but that's from her hitting a pole earlier. My deductible is $100 so I probably would pay less calling it in... but i'm not sure how much less and if it'd be worth it to potentially up my premiums. Should I get a free quote first and then call it in? will insurance be mad at me for doing that?? I think it would be a lot less hassle to just call it in, i just don't want it to be piddly and not worth my time and then go on my record.

  1. idk,.
  2. if you call it in then your insurance will go up for years to come, probably $400 more a year... get it fixed on the cheap, don't notify insurance, and delete this! get a cheapo OEM style bumper on ebay (i paid 80 each after shipping) then I got it painted to match for 100 bucks (the general population usually would pay a bit more) and then slapped it on myself 180 bucks plus the cost of body pins if any are broken (cheap as hell online, free at junkyards)
  3. Most likely it will wash off. Try that first before the insurance. It'll make your insurance go up to claim that. If it needs to be touched up you probably could find some where cheap to have it done.
  4. It won't hurt to get a free quote for the repairs first. If the insurance doesn't approve of the shop where you got the quote, they'll just tell you to go to a different "approved" shop. They'll probably accept the quote and it will look like you are on top of things because you already have that taken care of. You would have to ask your insurance agent how much it will affect your premiums, they're the only ones who can figure that out for you.
  5. With a deductible that cheap, it is definitely worth reporting it to the insurance. You may even get that part of the car repainted. Turn it in, your girlfriend will be happy to get her car fixed also.
  6. Might want to have her trany checked, just in case. If something is wrong with that because of your bump then report it. Other wise it isn't worth it to pay more on your insurance or waist your accident forgiveness waver on such a small thing.
  7. hmm i would just get it fixed at a car shop for a bit cheaper and move on.
  8. If you report it to your insurance company your premium WILL go up. Try a rubbing compound to see if the scratches will come out on both cars. If you want, take it to a body shop and get an estimate. I think you'll be shocked at the cost of the repair. (I got hit in a parking lot and the estimate to paint my bumper was over $500!!) If the chipped paint is that bothersome try the dealership...they may have some touch-up paint you can buy for a small price. (My tube cost 5 bucks) Sure, it's not a professional paint job but you can save yourself a lot of $$$$
  9. Get a quote from the garage, then get a quote for insurance with the claim on there. Chances are it would probably be cheaper for a buff and maybe even a respray. I don't see any reason why you couldn't give the insurance a 'Hyperthetical situation' to get your quote on how much it'd go up.
  10. I bet it would cost too much to fix both cars. I would put in the claim. If you have a good agent, they can better advise you and maybe give you a quote to see how much your insurance will increase. Good Luck!!
  11. Wow, you have a $100 collision deductible? I can guarantee if you put in a claim it won't stay $100 on renewal. Get an estimate to repair the two vehicles and decide if it's even worth putting in a claim.
  12. If you call your insurance company then they will deem you at fault for the accident and raise your premium. If I where you I would get the estimate and see how much it is. DO NOT CONTACT YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY. by law they are required to put the claim in even if you are calling to inquire. If the damages are not extremely costly, pay for it and never mention it to your company. Remember ann atfault accident stays on your record for 6 years depending were you are situated. You might pay double or triple for that accident if you claim it.
  13. I am not sure where Jenna gets her information from. And perhaps it is different from state to state or company to company. I am in New Jersey, and I have Liberty Mutual Insurance. Liberty Mutual does not charge a surcharge, or increase the rates if you just report an accident, and don't claim it. But f you put in a claim, it will go up, no matter what the claim is. My daughter, who also has Liberty Mutual had a minor accident. Repair costs were around 600-700. Her deductable was 500, so the insurance company only paid out 100 or a bit more. But her premiums went up drastically because she claimed it on her insurance. Se was pretty mad, and never would have claimed it or got it fixed if she had known this before hand. So, I would call your insurance company and see what their policy is about reporting vs. putting in a claim.
