Car accident: who pays for quotation costs?

hello guys, hope someone can shed some light on this! 2 Questions 1: i had an accident in syd, aus, (it was my fault, so i'm agreeing to pay for it) and basically the costs of repair comes up 3/4 of the price of the write-off, and the other party wants us to pay for the write-off. I just wanted to confirm with people who have been in a smiliar situation, what did u do? I think i'm in the right in demanding i pay the repair, not the write-off right? 2: also the other party demands that we also pay for the quotation costs, if anyone here is in the insurance industry how does this work? She basically paid for 2 quotes, and we ourselves paid for one. The cheapest quote was the one that we paid for. But she wants to recover all the quotation costs, which comes to about $400, which is alot of money. Does anyone know if we need to pay her for that amount, or is it only for the quote that we agree on, so basically ours? If anyone has an answer please, please, PLEASE let me know, i know were at fault, but it seems stupid that we need to pay for quotes, where the guy that did our quote did it for free. Thanks

  1. 1. It's your choice whether to pay the lower of the repair cost or the write off cost, as that is what any judge would make you pay. 2. I have never heard of a body shop charging for an estimate, let alone $200. I would be very suspicious of this, something doesn't seem right.
  2. There are some body shops that "DO" charge for quotes and then in return credit this back "IF" the work is done at that shop however what I would do is talk with the other party and make sure that they are going to get this fixed at the repair shop and see if they are going to credit it back..............but the shops that do charge for a quote you will see that they do not have that much business...........best of luck. Also you seem like a very fair person but with that aside I would not pay for (2) quotes.....
  3. There are tons of websites where you can get an online quote. http://www.goodinternetdeals.com/Auto-Insurance.html It only takes 5 minutes to do.
