If a vehicle was used in a crime, and the person was set free can it be retrieved?

A car was used as the get away car and I would like to know if the police will allow the person to get the car back or can the family get the car back if the person has served their time and is set free. Or is it considered police property and auctioned off?

  1. Depending on the crime that was committed that the car was used in, it may be seized by the police department/law enforcement agency that made the arrest. To get a definite answer, the vehicle owner needs to contact the arresting agency. They will be able to explain the law/policy on the ultimate fate of the vehicle. Hope this helps!
