question about massachusetts car registering laws and why i got a ticket for avoiding insurance premiums?

i live in massachusetts but have a new hampshire ID. my father is the primary owner of my car and lives in NH, and im the co-owner. My dad recently got a $500 ticket in the mail from the Police Chief in my massachusetts town for $500 for avoiding taxes and insurance premiums by not registering my car in massachusetts. is there any way to fight this ticket? maybe because my dads the primary owner so it has to stay with NH tags? Maybe i can tell them that im only living in mass for 5 months out of the year (winter) so i primarily live in NH? Any hlp would be appreciated, and if someone comes up with a link to help me better understand what it is/how to fight it, it would help very much, thank you!

  1. A letter to the DMV might help since they probably don't know the full circumstances. For the cost of a postage stamp, it's worth trying.
  2. You keep referring to it as "My car" but then you state your Dad is the "primary" owner. Which is it ? I don't know what you mean by "primary owner" but if there is such a thing as a "primary owner" and the primary owner is your Dad and he lives in NH then the car must be registered in NH. I think you will have to pay the fine.
