What do I need for remote car starter to work on automatic cars with CHIP keys? ?

I just bought a remote car starter for my 2001 Honda Accord, which is equipped with power locks. The key is equipped with a CHIP, so if any wrong key is used the engine will be locked for security. The remote car starter that I bought came with wires, remote and a black box with connectors. I talked to some of my friends who dont have enough knowledge of cars but they said you need some kind of module and an extra key to keep it in the car. I am not sure what it is called and not sure if it is really required. Someone please direct me in the right direction and possibly installation articles with pictures or a website. Thank you very much.

  1. It sounds like you're going to install the remoter starter by yourself. I wouldn't suggest that. I think you do need a extra key because that key has to be programmed to your remote starter. My friend has been installing alarms into cars for years and I wish I knew the exact details to give to you BUT if you're doing it yourself and have no knowledge, let someone else install it. Call a alarm shop and see if they can help.
  2. There are 2 options that most installers use. 1. Tape an extra key under the dash (yes, they really do this) 2. There is a device that will mimic the code for your key, but they only work for remote start systems of the same brand. I would suggest searching for the company that made your remote starter and "key immobilizer" also check out the link, they have lots of info FYI - it is very difficult and ill-advised to put a remote starter on a car with a manual transmission, since you would have to disable the safety that stops the car from starting while it is in gear
