buying a car from canada?

HI, I am wondering if someone want to buy a car from toronto and he is not canadian and he is just came here for a vacation (visitor visa) for 2-3 weeks. would he pay tax for that car (how much in percent), even if he wants to ship the car and not use it inside canada (no registration, no plate number needed) just a direct shipping from the dealer showroom to outside canada? 2- how much the shipping and insurance will cost, i know it depends on the car's price and the destination but if u have a rough idea please help me Regards HI, I am wondering if someone wants to buy a car from Toronto and he is not canadian and he just came here for a vacation (visitor visa) for 2-3 weeks. would he pay tax for that car (how much in percent), even if he wants to ship the car and not use it inside canada (no registration, no plate number needed) just a direct shipping from the dealer showroom to outside canada? 2- how much the shipping and insurance will cost, i know it depends on the car's price and the destination but if u have a rough idea please help me Regards

  1. I'm not sure about cars specifically, but normally, from within Canada, if you're selling to someone not in Canada, the buyer does not have to pay any Canadian taxes. However, since your buyer is physically IN Canada right now, and he's not buying from a duty-free store, he will have to pay taxes, as far as I know. He can get a rebate for the PST portion, though: http://www.2ontario.com/traveltips/tips22.asp . There's a link to the rebate form near the bottom of the page. Of course, this only applies if he's buying from a store which is authorized to collect taxes. I can't help you with #2. Sorry.
