used car warranty in the UK?

I am about to buy a 4 year old Jaguar X type and dont want to fork out for a whole years warranty from the car dealership. I have been trying to find a warranty provider that will cover me on a monthly basis ie by direct debit, but doesnt insist on me paying for 6 months cover before I can cancel. Basically I just want one months cover to make sure nothing happens within a month of picking up the car. Anybody know of any good companies who can do this?

  1. Try Car Care Plan, I'm sure they do a 1 month warranty. If you buy it from a dealer they should provide a minimum of 3 months with the car. Whilst they are not legally obliged to do so, it is considered good practice. They are however liable for any problems that may arise in the first six months. Within these six months the dealer must prove that the fault DID NOT exist when you bought the car. Rather than the burden of proof being on you. If they wont include at least 3 months, maybe you should consider a similar car from elsewhere. If it is very cheap, perhaps the service is not up to scratch.
  2. used car warranties are not worth the paper they are written on
  3. simbar, I've always purchased an extended auto warranty for every car I've owned in the last 6 years. In the beginning I used to get them from the dealer, but I've found it's cheaper to get them from a auto warranty company. http://www.goodinternetdeals.com/Auto-Warranty.html They offer free quotes, so it's easy to see how much one would cost for your automobile.
  4. try googling motorway direct. the only trouble is that a lot of companies have a minimum 6 months payment because there's a chance you will claim. Not saying you will, but that's from the warranty company's point of view
  5. Your dealer has to by law provide some warranty for the car you are buying have it inspected before you buy it, or take someone with you who knows what he is looking at
