What is the origin of the tradition in Argentina of a bottle on the roof of a car meaning it is for sale?

If you ever go anywhere in Argentina you are bound to see cars with bottle's on their roofs, which means that the car is for sale. Does anyone know the origin of this mysterious tradition?
