Restoring a classic or buying a new car?

I found a 1969 Z28 camaro I want to buy. The body is straight with a few little dings but needs paint. Interior needs complete restoration. 302 V8 engine runs and is complete. 4speed transmission and rear end also work but are old. I want to rebuild this car and keep it maybe give it to my son when he's older. My wife dosent understand this find, she thinks I should buy a new car. The price is right and I think it's a good investment. Does any one know how hard it might be to find parts for a car like this?

  1. If you found a 1969 Z28 with 302 you are truly blessed, the production numbers on the 302 ci Z's are super low which translates into....your sitting on a gold mine. The parts to restore are readily and cheaply available at alot of different places.Year One,the Paddock, and Goodmark are just a few good places to check.I was lucky enuf to find a 1969 Gto Convertible needing restored and would never suggest buying a new car versus restoring a true piece of American Musclecar history.Your a guy,you know the right thing to do lol.Good luck in your restoration.
  2. Here is a site that should help authenticate the 69 Camaro as a Z/28. Year One is another good source for restoration parts. http://muscle-car-resto.com/chevy/ The only advice I'd have is to be careful that you don't restore it to such a high standard that you can't enjoy it.
  3. buy the car and can find all the restoration parts from www.yearone.com www.classicindustries.com.they sell all new old stock, for the first gen camaro.
