Overhaulin'

Making the body straight?

I am a huge fan of Overhaulin' and watch the re-runs all the time. I also enjoy working on cars. My question is....when they go to prep the cars for paint they spread a light green bondo like material on the car then sand it down, Does anyone know what this product is? Thanks!

  1. Its Bondo. Actually most good shops use a form of bondo called Rage gold. Same stuff just a different brand. What it does is fill all the imperfections that are the low spots. What you dont see on the show is to get the quality they do is all the blocking and sealing they do. After the first go around they may do 2 or more sequences of block sanding and re spraying a thin black material that shows low and high spots when block sanded. An average paint job at Lanzini's is between $7,000-$10,000 for a simple basecoat/clearcoat finish.
  2. It's Bonda Plastic Body Filler. Using the spray filler primer, instead of just regular primer also helps may the car look super smooth. I've never taken nay of my cars to a shop and they look just as smooth as any expensive shop. I used House of Kolor Paint. The trick is buffing the car (Iususaly wait about two weeks to ensure the paint is fully cured, the use a clean buffing pad and "mothers" car polish and just keep polishing it (lightly) until it has a mirror finish. I always do this in a garage, but you can do this outdoors in the shade, just wet the ground so that no dirt or contaminates ruin your buffing pad. And always make sure the car is clean, no dust at all. I've never spent over $700 on any of my paint jobs. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1077/1399306268_d2987f6b8f.jpg?v=0
