California needs money...How about selling car pool lane decals for $500 to single occupant car drivers?

Or $1000. They sell a limited number of decals for Hybrids, how about a mass sale to single occupant gas engine cars as well? Single occupant drivers are NOT allowed in California car pool lanes PERIOD. Only a certain number of hybrid cars with state decals are allowed in the car pool lanes besides passenger cars with two or more occcupants.

  1. I don't get your point. Do you think that single occupant drivers should pay more. What about motorcyclists, they are more efficient, but the gov wouldn't turn down the extra money.
  2. My answer is 500 per vehicle and maybe the limit would be 1000 dollar limit for owners with multiple vehicular registrations per name of a legal age.
  3. No, this isn't a good idea. If they tried this, the ACLU would be all over them - this is discrimination since you would effectively give wealthier people a way out of sitting in traffic that people which can't afford to ante up $500 would still have to sit in. No chance you'll ever see this happen.
  4. Agree but only to vehicle owners who own the GX natural gas engine which is only sold in California and New York. Otherwise all you've done is put more petrol pukes into play.
  5. They couldn't sell enough to make a dent in the big red hole of debt. And the more they did sell would defeat the "exclusive" aspect of the HOV lanes, therefore making those lanes more crowded and less desirable and therefore worth less. Kind of self defeating.
  6. Actually, a blow up doll is allot cheaper than $500.00, you can use one of them in the car pool lanes.
