Serious question about Transportation for Disabled?

I am a high level spinal cord injury college student. Public transportation has failed me. Any one know of places that do custom modifications to cars, specialized vehicle distributors, or any feasible wayI can get a modified car to have some form of a life? Thanks

  1. there are many--probably about5 inmy state alone--it helps to know what state you live in-- have you talked to vocational rehab--they may help you with teh expense (in the USA) look up disableddealer.com (?) magazine
  2. Google mobility, modifications, auto, and your city and state and you should come up with more than a few.
  3. yes there are places that do that.just look in the yellow pages.also there's a web site called=rideaway.com they sell vechiles with wheel chair Accessories.they will also modified your car or van to your needs.also your dealer can maybe recommend some one in your area.
  4. until you can get something going for yourself I'd suggest finding yourself a good friend to stand by you and maybe take you places. Perhaps medicare if you have it can provide a caregiver to go along with you at least for the driving part and maybe even other places you need to go as well. It's called "companion" service.
  5. In Brisbane we have taxi that can take wheelchairs and mobility scooters and some bus that are accessible to hand pushed wheelchairs
