Reasonable classic car insurance for a 17year old?

Hi all, i've just bought a 1978 mgb gt and i'm looking to get insured on it. I have 3 points on my licence for speeding, i'm 17 years old. Can you suggest anywhere that may give me a quote below £1.5k? what would you suggest would be a reasonable quote, considering my situation? thank you in advance. edit, i'd like to point out i live in the UK so american websites don't really help. thank you for trying though.

  1. There are several web sites for classic car collectors, and several magazines aimed at them; those sources probably have ads tailored for insuring the vehicles. At 17, however, you may have a problem, since you're under 18 and can't enter into a contract, at least in the US; it may be different in the UK.
  2. Adrian Flux,Budget Insurance,Lancaster Insurance,--edit-- MGBGT is a solid car with the proven B series engine. The king pins on the steering need regular greasing and they were quite a reliable car.Not fast by todays standards but fast enough. If you shop around and agree to a limited annual mileage you should get a reasonable quote somewhere-best of luck
  3. Hi, Well, (apart from a questionable taste in cars (MG's are useless bags of cack, FACT) the three points you have on your fresh, not-yet dried licence (I speak with halo intact, after 25 accident-free years) will preclude you getting a 'reasonable' quote. If you had a more modern, inoffensive daily-driver - something like a tinny little Peugot 106 or a VW Polo - you could probably get a limited-mileage policy FOR YOUR SECOND CAR, THE MGB, on the cheap, though lots of No-Claims-Bonus and a clean licence are what brings your premium down. As a daily-driver, and your only car, I think you will be offerred quotes that will be rather high. I wouldn't trust an MG to get me to work, reliably. I've seen people try, but these old crocks (their charm is totally lost on me) are best fiddled with at the weekends, when not arriving on time is a mere inconvenience. Try the insurance adverts in the back of Practical-Classics magazine, and Classic Car Weekly. I think both of those have websites.
  4. If in the UK you have the deck of cards stack against you,for two reasons, firstly you have an endorsement secondly you are under 25 and thirdly the car you have. Personally I don`t think you will do any better with any insurance company.
  5. Hey there, see http://simplyinsurancequotes.com/uk/eGroupmotoring-insurance-quotes.php?id=8899 They'll sell you insurance MONTH BY MONTH so if your 1978 mgb happens to break down (very unlikely I admit) you can just put it in the garage or on blocks and at least you won't waste any money on insurance (while it's getting fixed).
  6. Ho ho ho! Every one rolls around laughing. You are a new driver of 17, already with 3 points on your licence, wanting to insure a sports car (despite the fact that most small modern 'ordinary' cars will leave it for dead). Reasonable is not a term you are going to find and most classic car insurances are also mileage restricted.
  7. nice car! - i have just got a 1975 one! try upping your excess on your inusrance to see if that reduces your premium
  8. Considering your situation, "a good quote" would be anything you can get at all as most will not want to insure a 17 year old with 3 points for speeding! Are you trying to get comprehensive insurance? I hope not! :) Btw for the same price and also in the same insurance bracket you could have had this http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-abc/Alfa-Romeo-2000-GT-Veloce-Green-st.jpg It will beat any 1978 mgb gt in fourth with an extra gear to go :) This is nice too and same insurance bracket as yours: http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/attachments/alfetta-gtv6-1975-1986/32961d1142006659-alfetta-gtv8-la-bomba-gtv8-20werksphoto-202.jpg
