what do you think of this car as a first car?

i am turning 16 soon and i am looking for a car. i have $15,000.00 saved up, some of my own and some is from what my parents gave me. i really like RX7's and Supra's so i found this 1994 Mazda RX7 for $10,990.00 with 40,270 miles on it. i was wondering since this is a 1994 car and has only 40,270 miles if it is a bad thing? and also since this car is quite far away from where i live if there is a way i can get it delivered to where i live? and how much would this delivery cost? this is the car http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;jsessionid=gRFhZi19fQnAykD9ay4Mi1e?tab=map&paId=303078540&recnum=18&actLog=true&tracktype=usedcc&pageNumber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=PRICE+descending&certifiedOnly=false&criteria=K-|E-|M-_30_|B-20000|D-_284_|N-N|R-10000|I-1%2c7|P-PRICE+descending|Q-descending|Z-13090&aff=national i know i'll have around $4,000.00 left after i buy the car and i was planning on spending this money on modifying the vehicle, for example racing wheels, spoiler, body kit, etc.....please don't say i can buy a newer car for the same price, i like older sports cars like this one

  1. way too much money for that car.
  2. Dang, looks nice to me.
  3. Hi, if you want to get more information about it, go to http://car-insurance2009.synthasite.com/?q=first%20car
  4. RX7's are nice machines but keep in mind that a 16 year old driving a sports car will cost you dearly for insurance.
  5. Better save that $4000 to buy about 6 months worth of insurance instead. There's no way a 16 year old boy needs or should have a fast sporty car. You're an accident waiting to happen, and the odds are damned good that you'll stuff this thing into the weeds, upside down and backwards and at a high rate of speed. At the age of 16, you might have a driver's license, and you might know enough about driving to pass your state's driver's exam, but you don't truly know how to drive, and do it safely. I know - I was once 16, too. I had my first accident on the way home from passing my driver's exam. My recommendation would be to spend about $4000-5000 to get a used minivan or larger car, like an Oldsmobile, or big Chevy, or a Taurus, or something like that. Find one in decent shape, and drive that for a couple of years. It should have a set of airbags that will protect you in a collision, and keep you alive long enough to learn how to drive safely, and how to develop the instant reflexes that might be the difference between sheet metal damage and frontal lobe damage. And then put the remaining $10K towards tuition, because you'll need that more than you need a cool car. After that, you get a job, and THEN you can buy the cool car. Besides - $11,000 for a 15 year old car? Someone saw you coming and figured you for an inexperienced kid. Try to be smarter than that.
  6. Something's wrong with the age of the vehicle and its mileage. I suspect that the odometer has been turned back or the odometer doesn't show the 100,000 mile digit. That car is 15 years old. It should have about 160,000 (or more) miles on it. Check the car's documents. Some states have the mileage on the title (or registration or emissions test results). If the dealer can't produce the document(s), then NO SALE! They are hiding something. Ask to see the odometer statement from the previous owner. It is required by law for them to sign it. Watch for suspicious signatures that look similar (forged document). Look at the brake pedal - is the brake pedal worn? High mileage vehicles will show this. Look underneath the car. A car of low mileage won't have a lot of oil, dirt or mud buildup. Same with the inside of the wheel wells. Take it to your own trusted mechanic, if you have one. Don't buy their warranty. You may have problems collecting on any warranty claims. They will claim abuse or faulty maintenance on your part and you can't prove otherwise. When you buy a used car, you are buying someone else's problem. Be very cautious. And, like another respondent stated, your insurance will be very, very expensive on this car because of your age and the type of car - if you can get insurance at your age at all!
  7. its an awesome car, but rotary engines don't last that long, its like the new RX-8's, many problems with the flooding of the engine, and problems with cold starts. Rotary engines need more maintenance, plus more gas than a regular car with a regular engine. In addition, even though this car is so hot compared to say the camry, its just not as reliable as them. I'm not saying go down to a camry, i'd say go to another auto manufacture, like Lexus. The shipping shouldn't be too bad, try Dependable Auto SHippers, they'll give you an instant quote. And I too am looking for a car, Infiniti G35 Coupe, BMW Z4, or BMW 325CI. I'd suggest a 300zx for you, Twin Turbo, and with that much money you can get a 350z better yet. In addition, if you like Tuners, also try the Lancers, and Imprezas, very nice cars.
