When do you have to buy car insurance?

When do you have to buy car insurance? I've just bought my first car privately and expect to drive it home next Tuesday. However, I'm confused about the insurance. When should my insurance policy start? Does it have to be next Tuesday, too?

  1. If you're driving that car, it has better be insured.
  2. Before you get in it to drive it home.
  3. you should insure the car the minute you buy it and have registered the documents in your name If it belongs to you just now, then it should be insured by now
  4. ~~Call your agent and give them all the information on the car.l You do not want to drive it until it is insured.~~
  5. You need to have car insurance the very second that you step into the car. If you are going to drive it home on Tuesday, you need to have it insured BEFORE you drive it anywhere.
  6. yes you have to have the insurance in place before you drive it
  7. from the time you pick it up to drive it on public roads, also taxed and MOT and providing you have a valid licence
  8. You should have insurance before you drive it. So yes, your insurance policy needs to start next Tuesday at the latest.
  9. Insure it now, the previous owner may have already cancelled his insurance on the car and it may be sitting there uninsured. If not then make sure its insured Monday from midnight so you can drive it home.
