  1. "it has knocking from the engine and that is only thing wrong with it" That's like saying you have an irregular heart, but really, you're in great shape. For a car with a knocking engine, and potentially needing serious engine work...I'd say $500-$1000. At most. Grand Am's aren't worth that much to start with, and that condition seriously decreases it's value.
  2. yep, selling a car with a knocking engine is like trying to sell a workhorse with a terminal illness.
  3. get a price on car using mileage and condition/deduct 2500 for engine replacement and you are ready
  4. Engine knocking? Pay ME, to take it off your hands. Seeing as the car is only worth a few thousand to start with, and the engine repairs can be several thousand as well....I'd say it'd be fair if you gave the car away, or paid someone to take it.
  5. a knocking engine can be the same as what happened to my grand am(98). which was a blown rod bearing which is only $12 part but takes the whole disassembly of the engine to fix but if it did like mine it also took the gear shaft with it and if it is more than a .75 mm increase in ware you'd need to buy a new crank shaft $150 and new piston rod $40. at that time you'd might have to tackle the transmission as well. for someone willing to the work $1000 wont be bad otherwise i'd say junk it at a junk yard for about $500 or use it as a trade in at a dealership for a new car. that sound unfixed could lead to a cracked/warped block and at that point it will take thousands to fix. try craigslist and use this post to inform them what might be the case you'd might get a few bights at $1000 if not again just use as trade in or junk it for $500 (maybe less).
