How to sell car for a friend who is away?
My friend is leaving to another country and wants me to help her sell her car. Can I do this? What documents do I need? Is just having the pink slip enough?

- dont do it/cars or houses buy or sell from friends or relatives not a good idea/tell her to take to used car dealer herself and take the title/she should sell it
- This is going to be hard, because most buyers will not buy from anyone other than the legal owner. At the very least you will need a notarized limited power of attorney giving you authorization to transfer the title. Even with that, many buyers are going to be reluctant to buy, in fear that the car is stolen. Any smart buyer will only pay with a bank check made out to the owner, so you will have to forward that to her. If you can put the car in your own name, it would be easier for you to sell it, but she would really have to trust you to give you the car without getting paid first.
- One way to do it would be to have her sign the car over to you. Depending on where you live just a bill of sale could be enough. If not, make out a bill of sale and have her sign the title over to you. It may cost you about 40 dollars to get a new title but then you have 0 legal problems.
