How hard is it to hook up a car subwoofer?

I got an offer from a friend that i could have an old subwoofer she used before she had a kid, i don't know if she has the cable for it or not, but i was just wondering how hard it would be to hook it up, oh yeah the best part is the car i am putting it in is a 4 door 1989 chevy caprice classic. i already had to put in an after market radio that has out puts for a sub. oh yeah, do i need an amp or not? How does the amp get power? from the car battery, threw the stereo?

  1. you definately need an amp. wiring them is not to hard. its all more finding a spot to run the wire so its not near any heat source or abrasive surface that with wear down the urathane covering and expose the wires. other than that its just screwing a few things into the amp and running a few wires to the stereo...
