Whats the most you can do to a car before the insurace needs to be stated as a modified vehicle in the UK? Example changing the rims to alloys, or changing the headlights, tinting windows etc.

Public Comments

  1. Any change must be notified especially alloys
  2. Anything that gives it a performance boost or that will make it more desirable to thieves. So basically anything. Insurance companies don't need much of an excuse not to pay out.
  3. Alloys definitely needs to be told to insurer Window tints not necessary as long as they are legal. Headlights might be a problem where some would and some would not Anything that changes the performance of the car or is designed to makes it modified. Even when modifications are allowed you find most insurers will not include them for valuation purposes if there is a total loss and if damaged they will return them to factory standard not as modified.
  4. Any structural change to a vehicle can be considered as dangerous, particularly wheels and tyres as these are part of the cars designed suspension and can drastically alter how the car performs in terms of road holding Etc.
