18" alloy wheels? can i put them on my car?

ive got a vauxhall astra 2.0 sri turbo 06 plate, its got 17" alloys fitted and what i need to know is if i fit 18" wheels will i have to modify the brakes or anything else on the car or can i just put the 18" on? thanks.

  1. You will alter the speed as recorded on your different'' and could end up getting a ticket even if your speedo' was reading 30 MPH. The suspension will not be in tune with the larger wheels and yes, you may different brakes. - I strongly suggest you don't do the change of wheels and save yourself a lot of money.hassle.
  2. Mate, i cant beleive you are even considering doing something so brain dead on an 06 plate Astra. Everything will be to c0ck - and of course if you don't inform your insurer, you'll be uninsured as its a modification.
  3. Of course you can fit 18" wheels - no problems. You just need lower profile tyres - so if you have 215.40.17 then you replace with 215.35.18 to keep the speedo the same. See Tyresave at http:www.tyresave.co.uk/alloywheels.html for information about choice of alloy wheels regards, Duncan
  4. Specific calculations can be made from the actual and to be fitted tyres. after switching from 225/45/17 to 225/40/18 your speedo will read 64.704 at 65mph.
