What would be considered high mileage for a police car?

I've looked at several former police cars for sale on the internet with between 60,000 and 90,000 miles on them. Since the engines in police cars have heavy duty parts, would this be considered high mileage for them? Btw, all the cars I've looked at were 2000 to 2003 model years.

  1. 100,000 miles...
  2. Police cars idle about 4 times longer than time spent actually move. That means those engines have the equivalent of about 250,000 to 300,000 miles on them. Some have had the engines rebuilt. When it becomes more expensive to repair and rebuild them than replace them, they are sold. You are getting a body and a bunch of worn out parts.
  3. apolice car could easily go 200,000 miles.... It would be better to acquire one used by the highway patrol, rather than a city police dept....
  4. Stay far far away from used police vehicles unless you have first hand knowledge of the specific vehicle and its service history. Police vehicles have very hard miles on them and have lots of idle time. Every hours of idle running time equates to 30 miles of use. Newer police cars now have an hour meeter to help tell how much time is really on them. We turn our cars (city) at about 125k and they are shot. The state keeps their cars to 140k.
