do i have to use a car seat in a classic car to transport a child?

I live in Ontario, Canada and have a classic car (1967 Cadillac Eldorado). My child is three and uses a car seat in our other cars. The car seat doesn't fit right in my classic car. Should I still use the car seat or just go "old-school". I heard that classic cars were "grandfathered" and you didn't need to use a car seat, but was wondering if that's true.
