what is the law in california for seatbelts, and children driving in a classic car i have a 1959 bel air?
is it legal for them to drive without a seat belt build in the car??? if not what type of seat belt is best to install for classic cars for children safety?

- Yes, Under the law, owners of classic cars are not required to install safety belts or shoulder harnesses if they were not original equipment on the vehicles but its strongly advised to install them for safety. If you are driving a pre-1968 car or pre-1972 light truck, you are exempt from California seat belt requirements but read CVC 27360. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27360.htm
- If the vehicle came from the factory with seat belts, you are required to use them. If not, then you are on your own.
