Project car question!!!!!?

I'm only 16 years old, and my dad and i decided to do a project car. right now i drive a 99olds cutlass, but that is going to be given to my younger siblings. My question is: What is the best classic car we could fix up? im looking for one i can drive alot with minimal problems, and one i can drive in the michigan WINTERS. so are there any classic cars that can drive well in the winter... maybe like a cuda? something super heavy? we were also looking at wranglers or possibly an amc eagle.(im only a teenager and price plays a part too)

  1. mustangs,el caminos, chevelles are good choices because there are lots of replica parts for them.
  2. I would stick with a front wheel drive vehicle for the winter or a four wheel drive. All clasic cars are rear wheel drive and do not handle the best in snow. If you find a nice clasic the michigan road salt would turn it to rust. Or the ditch would do a number on the body
  3. well a cuda to restore could cost you up to 20 to 50 thousand depending if you put in new motor, trans, rear end ,front end, interior, paint, glass, would you still drive it in winter?any classic you restore you wouldnt want to drive in michigan winter when you know the roads there are the worst in the country. most people like myself dont drive there classic or antique auto in rain or snow.its hard to keep it nice if you use it every day for every day driving
  4. Well, normally I'd go with a Camaro, Chevelle, or BelAir, but you mentioned you need to be able to drive reasonably easily during Michigan Winters, so you want something with either FWD or 4WD. The old wrangler might be a good choice or the old big style Blazers. If you want a car, you can take a look at the 67-70 Cadillac Eldorado, it was a FWD so it should be decent in the snow, and it's one of the best looking coupes to ever come out of Detroit.
  5. any classic car that you might be interested in will be pretty helpless in the snow.... and why would you want to take it out in bad weather anyway. Keep it simple. Consider a make/model with lots of cheap available parts. Trucks are kind of fun to play with... how about a 1/2 ton Chevy truck 350-V-8; say 1970 to 1978; sports car fun at a fraction of the price... easy to service and tons of parts available at any salvage yard; engine, tranny, etc. if you get one that runs you can even take home your new parts in the bed of your truck. you can even get 2 or 4 wheel drive; Hope this helps!
