Place to buy used cars with modified hand control systems?
What I'm asking is, does anyone know of any websites or if local businesses exist where they have for sale used cars already modified with hand control systems? Here's the story: I'm disabled, trying to try to drive (not sure if I'll be able to.. spatial disorder issue), but money is an issue. And I figured it'd be hell of a lot cheaper to buy an already-modified-for-disabled-people car than to buy a regular car, then buy the hand control modification, then do any other modifications I may need and whatnot. So the idea is, having a pool of already-modified cars I'd be able to pick one that suits my needs best, instead of picking up pretty much a cheap clunker as that's all I can afford, then spending who knows how much to modify it for my driving NEEDS (all I NEED is a hand control system). Bonus question: Is there any kind of special - adaptive/adapted - driving test for disabled people? Or is the driving test the same for everyone?

- in the US< you need to be evaluate by a driver rehab specialist.they will approve the modifications you need you cannot modify the test--only the car if you are working/trying to work vocational rehab will help pay for it look up DISABLED DEALER while there is a generally standard placement for hand controls--the placement can vary based on a persons needs so its hard to find a car modified for your specific needs you can also contact charities like EASTER SEALS and see if they will help you EDIT CONTRARY to ANOTHER RESPONSE in my state--you canNOT legally drive with hand controls unless you get it approved by a driver rehab specialist.. and the accessiblevehicle places nearme often have a couple used vehicles they are helping to sell--but more so for the ramp vans than hand control vehicles....
- Having just gone through this process myself, I would imagine most people would remove the hand controls from their car prior to selling the car, so they can be installed on the next vehicle. Considering how much the controls cost, and that with a few minor modifications they are adaptable to the next vehicle, it doesn't make much sense for most people to sell the car without removing the hand controls first.
- Contrary to what Justme says you DO NOT need to be evaluated by a rehab specialist, It is an option though. Most places that sell vans that are modified do not have used cars. It is easier if you buy the car and then the hand controls. I did this for my first car. You also don't mention where you are from. edit: the test is not changed. I however was able to take it at the place where I learned how to drive instead of going to the DMV. edit: It is NOT mandatory in the US! Find me a law that says this. It isn't mandatory anywhere! So, don't talk unless you know the rules.
