should i buy my own car or just use my mom's car for now?

my mom wants me to buy a used car for 1,300, but i don't have that much money. i will be going to college in the fall and i am not planning to take a car. also, i just need it for practice in order to get my license. so, should i just use my mom's car or go ahead and buy a used car?

  3. AFTER buying a car, you will need to have a steady flow of cash that must be used to pay for upkeep and insurance and operation. And its hard to predict how much you will need for these things. At the same time, with you going off to college - money is tight - and you have no experience with predicting what college costs you will run into. Having a car - only means you have more things to pay for. Can you handle this? Or would you need to spend time working to pay for the car's operation instead of spending that time studying towards your degree? I would not recommend getting a car. Why not just tell your Mom that your main goal is college. And you know college things will cost more than you expect. So you would prefer sharing her car. And could you help with her car by buying gas, etc? Tell her that after you have been in college for 1 or 2 semesters, you may reconsider getting a car. $1,300 for a used car means that car is several years old. Older cars average having more repairs. If you go to college - and you absolutely had to have a car - you could then either borrow one - or rent one (like for trip home). By taking this approach, you have your saving$ available for use on other items.
