do I need an insurance and plate for a newly bought car if I don't use it?

I am planning to buy a used car, but I can only afford the car itself and price is really good, so I don't want to miss the chance. Can I keep it in my garage without a plate and insurance until I have some extra cash?

  1. No, you don't. You would only need a plate once you want to drive the car.
  2. Yes, you can keep it in your garage if you don't use it until you get the extra cash to buy some insurance. However, suppose someone breaks into your garage and steal the contents of your car or a fire destroys it? It would be good if you get insurance as soon as possible. Good Luck...
  3. DEPENDS ON CITY LAW. SOME CITIES CAN TOW FROM PRIVATE DRIVEWAY IF VEHICLE DOESN'T SHOW PLATE. OTHERS COULD CARE LESS IF NOT ON STREET. UNKNOWN IF THE VEHICLE IS COVERED. IF ANYONE PERCEIVES SHOUTING BY USING CAPS, THEY HAVE AN ACTIVE IMAGINATION AND WAY WAY TOO MUCH TIME ON THEIR HANDS. PITY THAT KIND. I'D BET INSIDE GARAGE IS FINE FOR POLICE. EVERYONE I KNOW IN MY STATE THAT HAS A SECOND CAR WILL GARAGE OR COVER IT AND LEAVE UNINSURED UNLESS DRIVEN, IN WHICH CASE MOST INSURANCE AGENTS WILL CHANGE COVERAGE OVER THE PHONE.
  4. You should have insurance for a non-operating vehicle if the garage burns down. And if the vehicle is to be stored right away, you can tell the dealer this so they do not collect the registration fee, They only collect the registration fee as a convenience for you. However, you have no choice to pay the sales tax.
